Waterline Measurement

Postby michaele69 » Wed Jun 20, 2007 12:32 pm

Can anyone tell me what the distance is from where the rudder post enters the hull to the water line? In other words, how much does the rudder tube need to be sticking up to insure that it is above the water line?

Thanks,

ME.

Michael

You can make a very short rudder post tube if you use bearings and water proof grease. The design and building is described well on Rick West's site. http://www.ec12.info/rudder.htm

This is an extremely good way of keeping the water out and the rudder arm low.

Yes, I am familiar with this method, but I am considering doing it the other way. That's why the question.

I haven't made up my mind yet, I'm still looking for information.

Thanks for your reply.

Mike,

About 3 1/2" should work fine. That is the length tube I always sent with my rudders.
