Fairing the Rudder

I have an Ozmun hull. As most of you know, the keel trailing edge on this hull is blunt, leaving a gap between the trailing edge and the rudder. I believe that this creats unnecessary drag in this area. Since the '95 standard hull fairs in this area, creating a hydrodynamic "seal" for the rudder leading edge, would it be legal for me to alter this area and clean up the drag?

Hi Mike,
Your question is covered in the Class Rules: See 3.4
3.0 HULL

3.1 Hulls shall be obtained only from authorized manufacturers.

3.2 The overall length of the hull shall be established by the daughter plug.

3.3 Alteration to the manufactured hull by sawing, cutting, or adding any material to the exterior of the hull that would change the profile, contours or shape in any way is prohibited.

3<font color="red">.4 Notwithstanding Section 3.3, the aft edges of the keel may be faired into the rudder.</font id="red">
3.5 All registered yachts from previously approved manufacturers that met the Class Specifications on the date of their manufacture will be considered legal.
