formica deck

Postby kermwood » Fri Apr 16, 2004 2:13 am

hi has anybody outthere used formica as decking?

(1) did you stick it on the same way as balsa shown on build site?

(2) Did you find it to be brittle when trimming /drilling

(3) is it not more liable to break/crack in a coming together
than a glass protected balsa deck?

(1) You can epoxy it to the flanges similar to a balsa/glass sandwich deck. Sandbags and/or magazines.

(2) You have to be very careful when trimming the edges and especially when cutting out the hatch opening. It will tear/crack easily if the saw grabs it.

(3) Some people race forever with a formica deck and never puncture it. A friend of mine misjudged a crossing situation and got punctured in his first regatta.
