Tony,

I think you are going to want to put a 3/4 inch wide white or light colored stripe along the shear so you can tell the angle of heal when the boat is out on the water racing. Black with a black deck - all you will see is black with no idea how far the shear is above the water. I know you think that will spoil the stealth effect, but you have to be practical with a raceboat. Very pretty boat. Maybe you can make the shear stripe removable during the week - humor.

I have been loaning out my old 1980's Robin with a light deck, new heavy ballast pour (about 42 5/8ths), RMG and some good sails lately to a new guy and also to Tom P on visit to Atlanta area. Tom noted that it was hard to tell angle of heal/where the shear was, so I put a blue stripe at the shear on the yellow boat.

The boat is still not tuned well but much better than when Tom raced it. I finally raced that boat in a few races Saturday and have new respect for those old relics if they are well-rebuilt and have decent sails. Even in (typical up and down lake wind) wind of up to 6 or 8 the boat was flying. A bit more twitchy sometimes than a 95 std boat, but I was pleasantly surprised. Any boat is only fast or slow compared with the other boats out there, and I got lucky on some windshifts, so time will tell.

The 42 inoz rudder servo is definitely not up to the job downwind in puffs of 8 to 10.

Black is a great color for a boat, but mine has a light colored deck.

Somebody told me that there are only two colors to paint a boat, White or Black and only a fool would paint one Black.

Jack,

I think that was Mr. Herreshoff who said that.

Tony, I think we are both going to have trouble seeing our boats. My new boat is black also "Black Betty" but I have a white deck. My sail number is #84 so we are going to have fun sailing close to each other.

Scott, I agree with your observation about difficulty seeing any heel. I have a black CR914 with a white deck and it is very hard to tell what is happening when it is sailing across in front of you.

Goran, Great looking boat. If the three of us make it for the worlds, we will be shouting "TEAM BLACK BOAT"!

Black boats are also stealthy. Jack Wubbe worked his way up through the fleet on Sunday from 5th place to 2nd and almost into 1st. My red boat is a target. I think I am going to paint it black.

Hey, isn't that a song by the Stones?

Hi and thanks everyone for all good tips of the color black. I don´´t know if the boat will be only black but after the good reading i will tell Dick put som yellow toush of it.

Rick: Yes and thank´s fore the inivation, I´m very temptet and I shall carfule examine my and Dicks condition to accepted it. I think Dick have some ralatives in Fort Laderdale, probleby can we stay one ore two weeks there!!![:)] And a nother thing, we have to get hard on training and pratics, we are new in modelsailing, but we have experience of sailing so the tactic will no be any problem... I think. You gays are the pro[;)]
