Soldering Aluminum

Postby skip241 » Tue Jul 05, 2005 6:35 pm

I want to place a small "plate like" fitting on the end of a goldspar boom. I would like to weld it, but, I am not sure that can be done in a make shift workshop. Is it possible to solder aluminum? If so, how? Thanks. Skip, Atlanta

Take a look at this site: http://durafix.com/

I picked some up at the Toledo show a couple years ago and it works well.

Using a small propane torch, you can weld two pieces of aluminum together, much like silver soldering.

ESSI IS A WELDING SUPPLY STORE ON 126 AVE NORTH BY THE OLD RACE TRACK. THEY HAVE AN ALUMINUM SOLDER IN SMALL QUANTITY AND WORKS WITH A GOOD SOLDERING GUN. I USE THIS STUFF ON A/C CONDENSORS, WORKS FINE, ONLY DRAW BACK IS IF YOU GET THE FLUX TO HOT, IT TURNS BROWN AND WON'T SOLDER, YOU HAVE TO CLEAN IT OFF AND START OVER AND IT WON'T STICK TO ANY ANODIZING OR PROTECTIVE COATINGS, HAS TO BE CLEAN.
