I just completed the new cradle based on templates from Dumas and a lot of tweaking. The boat now rests on its keel and the cradle does not have any points applying pressure.
When doing this I noticed a depressed area in the hull below the waterline apparently caused by the old cradle. Any advice on correcting this? Heat from a light bulb and pressure from inside the hull?
I just removed my dimples. I used my bathtub, oversised, filled with hot water, and braced a piece of balsa along the hull with a tension bar to the joint of the deck/hull. After about 30 minutes, dimple was totally gone. Removed boat from water with tension bar and balsa still in place and let cool back to normal. Dimple did not return.
Davie Norris, president of NZOA and professional boat builder makes cradles. I have two of them both rest on the keel and they can also have draws built into them. They are made in New Zealand so they will be cheaper with the dollar exchange.
Thanks Phil. It's great to have you guys out ready to help. I did get one built by Matt Houghton in Pa. Did a really greay job. I now have my new Hickman resting in it. Thanks for the info anyway. Skip[8D] Were're looking at low to mid 70's this weekend 5 to 10 great for sailing.
