Dumas has templates for the cradle but their hulls are a bit narrower than others.

I am wondering if a conforming suspended strap or piece of carpet would be better than wood to avoid dimpling of the hull.

I actually have a rolling cradle/tote that uses 2" nylon webbing.

I do beleive that a full keel support cradle is a better design.

The new boat is getting one

That's a good point. For storage, having the weight of the boat mainly supported at the bottom of the keel should eliminate hull damage.

Cradle templates and plans are available from Bob Well at Ragged Symmetry. The contact information is listed in the Reference section of the suppliers list in the Building section of this site...[8D]

I just completed the new cradle based on templates from Dumas and a lot of tweaking. The boat now rests on its keel and the cradle does not have any points applying pressure.

When doing this I noticed a depressed area in the hull below the waterline apparently caused by the old cradle. Any advice on correcting this? Heat from a light bulb and pressure from inside the hull?

I just removed my dimples. I used my bathtub, oversised, filled with hot water, and braced a piece of balsa along the hull with a tension bar to the joint of the deck/hull. After about 30 minutes, dimple was totally gone. Removed boat from water with tension bar and balsa still in place and let cool back to normal. Dimple did not return.

I had that problem also. I waved a heat gun around the area, pushed it out with my hand and held it until cool.

Hi Skip,

Davie Norris, president of NZOA and professional boat builder makes cradles. I have two of them both rest on the keel and they can also have draws built into them. They are made in New Zealand so they will be cheaper with the dollar exchange.

Email him and ask for a photo and info davie@davienorris.co.nz

Regards Phil
