Beauty Contest

Maybe since things are somewhat slow this time of year.... we should have either a photo contest or beauty contest for the best EC-12 picture or paint scheme or whatever. Seems as if there should be plenty of people that would enjoy showing their boat, and it would help give some ideas to builders/painters for new graphics.

It would help me come up with new ideas.

I don't have any pics yet, but last winter I repainted from a faded gold (which my catty, evil clubmates dubbed 'Banana Boat') to black topsides with DayGlo Yellow below the waterline. The general concensus, after some cruel, biting comments (*grin*) is that it's a good scheme. The black stays visible while the yellow shows up in a heartbeat helping with angle-of-heel consternation.

Well the rumor has it that there is going to be the capability of posting pics (without having to have them on the web already and linking to them) and I welcome that as do everyone else I am sure.

The more different paint schemes I see the more ideas I get, it's called stealing... but some consider it flattery. I hope that once that is solved there will be a lot of boat pics posted.

The only thing I ever won racing R/c cars was the concourse competition, maybe I have a chance there if that ever happens?

I had the same problem when in college I was building 25mm Napoleonic figures for the miniatures battles, but I always lost because I made the units with the best looking uniforms.[:p]

We don't need no stinking beauty contest! We sail year round down here in Florida. [8D]

Except for that month and a half when the hurricanes came to visit. [:(]

Actually, I like the idea of a photo contest. I think it would be nice to get some beautiful shots of 12s in action, or maybe a shot of the early morning mist lifting as the boats are readied for combat, or 12s sailing into a glowing sunset. It could fire people up to take some really great photography of our class that could serve to promote the class as well.

Get the photo buffs out there and chellenge them to do some creative stuff instead of just the pictures of the winning skippers. I would be happy to host a photo contest site on the FloridaEC12 page. That way everyone could see them. Maybe the best photos could be voted on by all the skippers.

Hey Joe, that would be great!

I am a native Texan, but I have to admit that after living in Plantation FL for a couple of years that FL is model sailboat heaven. For those of you that have never been there... if everyone on this site moved to South Florida, and we all sailed a different pond everyday... we could not cover them all in our lifetime. They can't dig a hole without making a new pond, and everytime something is built they have to bring in dirt, which means they created another new pond somewhere.

The City Park next to my apartment even had a sign that read MODEL SAILBOATS ONLY. I loved that.

This will give us some ideas for new graphic and paint schemes, I Loved the idea of the backcover on #134 but the lack of waterline or other markings made if hard to grasp the image (IMHO)

We get something up now, and I am sure that the coming season will be even more colorful than before.[:)]

Hi Larry, It sounds like you live across the street from Central Park. We are starting to Sail EC12's at Windmill Park or Sabal Pines.

Hi Kent,

I think that may have been it... I sailed one of my EC-12's there quite a bit, but sadly never saw another boat out there. I heard tales that there were other boats in the area... and being Florida I am sure that there were... but never saw them [:(]

I think the apartments I lived in were on N.W. 7th. Circle. I left there in 1998, so my memory is getting away from me but that sounds right. I sure liked it there.

Good for you guys, I hope that you numbers grow quickly!
