Foam for shipping case

Postby Doug Wotring » Tue Jul 20, 2004 4:16 pm

I have a Airline shipping case large enough for an EC-12. Does anyone have any idea of where to get and how to cut foam so the hull will fit snug?

Thanks in advance

Find a furnature store and raid their dumpster.Glue the foam sheets if the thickness isn't ok.Another option is to go to the upholstery store and buy or otherwise obtain soft foam.

Back in the day, you would freeze the foam and cut away with a razor knife…this was done for cameras and such.

If you have the time, check out the yellow pages for spray foam for packaging. Most computer parts are ‘inserted’ and spray foam forms to the product.

This may work with a home brew of low expanding foam (found at Home Depot or the like) and plastic wraparound the boat.

Doug, Our local sailmaker sells foam in different thickness for boat cushions. Some of it is 4 inches thick. What's this airplane stuff all about anyway? You gonna trade in the old Trailways streamliner for a 737 ?

No No...keeping the bus as I intend on being able to give it to my kids.

Case is for the day I need to fly somewhere with my EC-12.

The foam I am looking for is pretty dense.....The case came with some it is blue and pretty solid.

This is a good place to get the same kind of foam that is used to line camera cases. The prices are pretty reasonable, too.
